About Phantom Of The Opera

The legendary, unforgettable musical, The Phantom of the Opera traces the tragic love story of a beautiful opera singer and a young composer shamed by his physical appearance into a shadowy existence beneath the majestic Paris Opera House. A newly installed state of the art digital sound system now makes Andrew Lloyd Webber’s spine-tingling score sound better than ever.
The combination of opulent sets and costumes, and fabulous special effects creates a theatrical experience not to be missed. Now entering its 24th year in London’s West End.

Show story

Christine Daaé is a beautiful singer at the Opera Populaire, who becomes the object of the Phantom’s obsessive affections. The Phantom comes to Christine at night as the ‘Angel of Music’ and fixes events so that she can get the principle role. Christine’s love for Raoul angers the Phantom so he takes his revenge.

Phantom Background

The Phantom of the Opera was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe. The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986. Originally playing the roles of the Phantom and Christine were Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman: their version of ‘The Music of the Night’ made the UK top ten.

Popularity of the Phantom

The Phantom of the Opera has proved a huge success from day one. In London, there has never been a seat unsold and the musical has achieved 99 per cent capacity wherever it has played. It is estimated that over 52 million people have see the show and it’s won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical plus seven Tonys.
